Leadership Q&A with Mike Dumas

Leadership Q&As are a series in which selected members of the Think+ community take a few moments to reflect on their experiences, offer advice to their fellow Energy Advisors, and look toward the future of Think+.

These insights from Regional Director Mike Dumas were provided during a conversation in July 2024.

What initially drew you to Think+?
MD: The fact that everyone we know uses electricity and we have the ability to help people save money on a service that has to be paid each and every month. As advisors, we also benefit financially.

How has being an Energy Advisor impacted your life?
MD: Becoming an Energy Advisor has opened the door for me to scale back on my contracting business. I no longer have to work as hard, allowing me to focus more on quality time and achieving financial freedom.

How has your definition of success evolved since you started with Think+?
MD: Time freedom.

What are some of the biggest motivators that keep you pushing forward?
MD: Setting a positive example for my children and grandchildren and leaving a legacy for my family.

What are some non-monetary rewards that drive you?
MD: Helping others succeed.

What personal goals do you set for yourself, and how do they contribute to your overall sense of achievement?
MD: I set written daily goals each morning, and by doing so, I get the gratification of being able to check them off when achieved.

What's one piece of advice you'd give to someone considering becoming an Energy Advisor?
MD: Focus on your "Why." Dream big. Create a list. Don’t prejudge. Share the opportunity early and often. Set goals. Get plugged into the system, follow the proven system, and know you’re not in this alone. Treat your Think Energy business like it’s a big business because it is.

How do you empower and support your downline to succeed as Energy Advisors?
MD: I do my best to motivate, encourage, and inspire. I keep the team informed regarding presentations, trainings, and updates.

What kind of community do you foster within your downline?
MD: I foster a positive attitude, environment, and build solid, long-lasting relationships.

Share a fun fact or a unique story about your experience as an Energy Advisor.
MD: I don’t necessarily have a fun fact regarding my experiences as an Advisor, but I will say that the help we receive from leadership, both in the field and from corporate, is an amazing fun fact in itself!

What excites you most about the future of sustainable energy?
MD: The energy space is continually evolving, and I’m very excited about our future as part of this amazing opportunity. I believe in our CEO’s vision for the future of Think Energy and trust in the process.

What are your biggest goals for your business moving forward?
MD: I’m focused on moving to the top of the compensation plan and bringing hundreds along for the ride!

When you think back about your expectations when you just started, what about Think+ has surprised you the most?
MD: We’ve only just begun. What we’ve created in such a short period of time is chilling! The lack of funds in many people’s lives creates stress, and stress kills. I’m very excited about helping people change their financial future by simply helping others do the same.
